PWA/HIV Leadership training

Definition of Objectives

The principal objective of this program is to provide the European Community with training mechanism to increase the active involvment of seropositive persons and people with AIDS in AIDS programs, to be accomplished through an analysis of the experiences of non-governamental organizations in those countries in wich PWA/HIV leadership appears better established and operative (generally in Northern Europe).

The idea results from the recognition of lack of appreciation - typical of Southern Europe - of the contribution that seropositive persons can make to AIDS programs, whether in non-governmental organizations or in public services, while in countries more advanced in terms of AIDS policies, PWA/HIV involvement seems to have been successfully implemented.

Because of the specific socio-cultural realities of these countries, however, their success are difficult to export.

The second objective, therefore, is the application in Southern Europe (including Italy) of a training model which reflect the cultural realities of the Mediterranean region, promoting the creation of a single training model that allows the adjustment of the realities, traditions and cultures of individual member states, establishing its contents and outlining an appropriate methodology.
