The activities of the HIV Association include:

1. providing information on

• all aspect of HIV infection
• medical matters, care, psycho-social aspects, insurance, work, housing, and vacations. Information is provided in a number of ways: consultation lines, ghaterings that tackle specific issues, HIV Nieuws, which is the bimonthly magazine of the HIV Association, and HIVNET, a computer network that is also accesible through the Internet: http://www.hivnet.org/

2. Serving as a whatchdog of

• Dutch AIDS policy
• medical developments and alternative therapies
• AIDS related legislation of various organizations

3. Protecting

• legal and social rights
• individual interest

4. Promoting

• mutual contact and support between people living with HIV and those close to them
• better living conditions for people with HIV
• knowledge about HIV among the public, politicians and other policy makers

5. Fighting

• society's prejudices against people with HIV

The HIV Association consists of a number of sections that develop activities aimed at specific groups:

• HIV Positive Women's Section

for mutual contact and support

• HIV positive (former) Drug's users' Section

for (former) drug users with HIV/AIDS and those directly affected, such as their partners and family. The aim of the section's activities is to improve the position of (former) drug users with HIV

• Detention Section

for inmates and former inmates. The section aims to improve the position of inmates and former inmates with HIV visiting them on request, for example;

• There are also activities for foreigners and families and children confronted with HIV.

Other sections include information, wich teaches classe etc. on request, Services, which provides info on applications for financial support etc., and the Tranport Project, which mediates for those people in need for transportation.

The HIV Association is spread over a number of offices througout the Netherlands.

Meeting points for people with HIV, the so-called HIV Cafes, are located in, among others, Amsterdam, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, The Hague, Groningen, Haarlem, Hoorn, Rotterdam, Arnhem, Tilburg, Utrecht, Ghent and Antwerp.
